Overview

The Full Moon Party is a legendary all-night beach gathering held monthly on Haad Rin Nok (Sunrise Beach) in Haad Rin village on Koh Phangan, Thailand.

It originated as a small gathering in the 1980s and now attracts 5,000 to 30,000 partygoers per event. The venue becomes a vibrant landscape of music, neon paint, fire performers, and dancing under the moonlight

Music styles range from EDM, trance, techno, and house to drum & bass, reggae, and hip-hop, spread across multiple beach stages. Expect UV body paint stations, fire shows (poi, rope jumping, limbo), beach bars, and the famous alcohol buckets filled with liquor mixers and energy drinks

The island’s iconic Full Moon Party runs once a month, on or near the full moon, typically shifting around Thai Buddhist holidays

But it’s also an event requiring vigilance: hydration, safe footwear, reliable transport, and legal awareness are essential.

  • Belongings: Bring minimal items in waterproof pouches; avoid carrying passports or unnecessary valuables to the party.

  • Hydration & Weather: Drink water throughout the night to beat tropical heat; be cautious if swimming—strong currents and dark waters pose risks. The 2025 fatal drowning incident highlights the dangers of post-party fatigue and unsafe conditions near beaches

  • Legal Risks: Thai drug laws are strict—possession and use of illegal substances can result in arrest. Sexual assault and theft incidents have occurred at or near the event, so remain vigilant and avoid secluded areas late at night
